Salme Alain is a Dragonfly-kinden Prince-Minor from the Commonweal. His family, the Salmae, rule Elas Mar Province within the Principality of Roh from their seat at Leoste, under the overlordship of Prince-Major Felipe Shah. Alain is a skilled hunter, tracker and fighter who rides a tamed giant dragonfly. He closely resembles his older brother Salme Dien in looks, but has a very different personality.
Heirs of the Blade[]
Tynisa encounters Alain not long after arriving in the Commonweal and is immediately drawn to him as a substitute for his dead brother. Alain takes her to Leose, and later fetches her from Lowre Cean's compound to participate in a hunt. During the hunt, Alain comes close to being killed by a giant forest mantis. Later, he and Tynisa serve his mother Salme Elass by leading her forces against rebels from Rhael Province, and grow closer. Under the influence of her father Tisamon's shade, Tynisa becomes obsessed with proving herself to Alain through bloodshed, and they sleep together. Later, however, Tynisa catches Alain attempting to rape a Butterfly-kinden dancer and murders him.
